Free clinics are scheduled with our guest artists at St. Petersburg College and at the Boys & Girls Club at the Royal Theater. Students and the community are welcome to attend at the SPC clinics.  St. Petersburg College is located at 6605 Fifth Ave. North in St. Petersburg.

Rafael’s performing resume includes the Grammys, SNL, David Letterman and Arsenio Hall with artists such as Janelle Monae, Prince, India Arie, Bruno Mars, B.O.B, Incognito, Donnie, Julie Dexter, Zee Avi, Russel Gunn and many more.

 

Rafael demonstrates the various rhythms and instruments in Brazilian music and will work with participants in batucada, where everyone plays percussion instruments. Admission is free and the clinic is open to the public.

EMIT is pleased to present a free session by renowned composer/sound artist Gustavo Matamoros on Thursday, August 23 from 12:30 - 1:30 at St. Petersburg College in HS 116. Gustavo will talk about his work and approaches to sound installations and performance art.

Gustavo Matamoros was born in Venezuela where he became interested in experimentation with short wave radios, tape recorders and listened to the progressive rock music of Egg and Gentle Giant. He directs the Subtropics New Music Festival in Miami.

MIRA at St. Petersburg College and EMIT, Inc welcome two international touring musicians for a free music workshop open to all students and the public.

Italian singer, Chiara Izzi and Brazilian guitarist Diego Figueiredo will perform together and talk about their experiences as traveling and recording artists playing many styles under the Jazz umbrella. Both Chiara and Diego recently performed at the Sarasota Jazz Festival and will be joined by SPC Professors Alejandro Arenas (bass) & Mark Feinman (drums) in this interactive workshop.
